A Directory of American Military Goods Dealers and Makers, 1775–1950: Volume 2 by Bruce S. Bazelon & William F. McGuinn
A companion to Directory of American Military Goods Dealers & Makers, 1785–1915, this 2nd volume is entirely new with none of the information duplicated from the previous edition. A 40-year effort to record the names of artisans and firms who manufactured, imported or dealt in military goods, this book more than doubles the data and expands the date range 45 years.

For what it is, there’s no replacement or equivalent, and that is a brief directory listing of individual companies involved in military equipment over many years. In some cases it continues an entry from volume 1 (marked with an asterisk), and there’s a great cross-referenced list by location & type of items sold (pg 552-587). What you will not find in this volume is extensive information, nor a lot of photos. If you’re looking for a major retailer’s marks & company name at various dates, that’s covered in other books. The thing’s over an inch thick and there are a *lot* of listings in relatively small print covering a mind-blowing number of years. Know your tools. 🙂
